@saffo: Get ready for a new economic era
Accoding to Paul Saffo we are rigt now entering a new era of economics. The idea is not new (see Toffler and the prosumer economy) but maybe these specific time segments are?
- 1900 - the producer economy
- 1950 - the consumer economy
- 2008 - the creator economy
The point with the last one is that the means of production have diffused and been democratized so that consumers are increasingly acting as producers when they participate in the creation of things in large scale. The examples are of course Youtube, Wikipedia and Google where the participants provide the value.
My own note: Why not creating a neologism - “Creactor economy”? Since the word “creator” is associated with deliberate and concious creation and what is meant here is that much of the value creation is being done through unknowing or semiconcious acts of creation in concert with millions of individuals?
Definition: “creactor” is an individual who create value by being an active participant - an actor - in a larger emergent whole.
And I have also become tired of the word prosumer since I use it in my talks very often.
