I thought it fitting to look back at my favorite paragraph which I published in 2013 in an article in Elsevier-Futures:
“In the Causal Layered Analysis method (Inayatullah, 2004) it is suggested that sometimes for facilitating deep transformations to occur in society you may need to uncover and alter the underlying relevant metaphor or myth. In Italian the expression dare alle luce un bambino can be translated into English as giving birth to a child. But a word by word translation indicates that it means giving light and brightness to a child who is in the darkness of the mother’s womb. The human experience is now in partial darkness which means our knowledge about ourselves (psychosomatically) and the universe (or probably multiverse) is too minuscule and dim. In the future we will be born again and again. In the Italian sense of birth we will come to even more brightness and light out of this darkness that surrounds us today and we are used to live in it. However, we need also to pay attention to the fact that Il tempo è tiranno which can be translated into English as time is passing too rapidly. Again a word by word translation uncovers the metaphor inside; the connotation that time is a tyrant, a dictator and thus cruelly will not let us go back. As we become older we tend to also feel a deep nostalgia about the past, when we were too young, missing opportunities.”
Beautifully written, Vahid!
